Reminder: Don’t forget to lotion the back roll!

Deycha Nhtae is a Seattle-based visual artist. She’s spent the last decade in Seattle developing her artistry, illuminating Black, fat softness. She uses acrylic, gouache, and digital media, painting figurative illustrations and colorful interpretations of everyday people, moods, and scenes.

Her practice centers on radical embodiment of the process of art marking, aimed at subverting compulsory productivity. She is a teaching artist at Pratt Fine Art Center, partners with Gay City as a teaching artist in their queer youth after-school arts programming, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Teaching. This is her inaugural art exhibition.
“Reminder: Don’t forget to lotion the back roll!” is an exclamation of self-love. In a world that rewards us for disparaging big Black bodies, these artworks uplift our divine existence as natural & worthy! This is an invitation to lovingly hold the parts of yourself that you’ve been taught to fear.
