Hair Love- A Series

Yolanda Galery is the owner and artist at Yolanda Galery Art. Yolanda’s artwork celebrates the beauty of melanin through strikingly colorful images. Yolanda specializes in figure painting with the goal of capturing the essence of Black through vibrant color.
This series, titled “Hair Love”, was inspired by Yolanda’s relationship with her own hair as well as the cultural and societal implications of what it means to have Black hair. With this series, Yolanda seeks to provide representation and to highlight the inherent beauty of natural Black hair. The legendary Bob Marley once said, “Trust the universe and respect your hair.” When people observe these pieces it is Yolanda’s hope that they experience not only how beautiful these styles are, but the deep-rooted relationship that we have with our hair. Yolanda aims to help others discover the same sense of self-love that she found while creating these pieces.
