Hope is a Sustainable Resource Workshop Series

July 31, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

This family-friendly workshop focuses on creative re-use of everyday materials such as cardboard, paper, and packaging. Participants of the workshop will discuss how we can adapt to the changing environment and what kind of world we want to live in.

Participants are encouraged to look at “trash” in a whole new way as we find inspiration, innovation, and hope in creative problem solving and building together.

Session 1: Working Together
JULY 10TH 1PM-2:30PM

2D building techniques and collaboration – using the theme of a “garden,” create individual plants, flowers, bees and butterflies, to compile a larger-scale “mural.” What changes when we combine our creative efforts? What difference does scale make?

Session 2: Build a Garden
JULY 17TH 1PM-2:30PM

3D assemblage techniques and experiments – participants use cardboard, packaging, paper, and other materials to build futuristic, imaginary plants. How do plants adapt to their environment? How do they help us? What else can be found in a garden?

Session 3: What makes a Home?
JULY 24TH 1PM-2:30PM

Build 3D structures as we ask: What is a home? What different kinds of homes are there? What does home mean to you? Structures may take the form of houses, castles, tents, nests, towers, caves, beehives, birdhouses, tree hollows, or so much more!

Session 4: Your vision for the Planet
JULY 31ST 1PM-2:30PM

Create and decorate a 3D planet! What does “hope” mean to you, and what you want to carry forward? What do we need from our environment in order to live happy and healthy lives? What will you make or build in the future. This session can also be used to finish any previous projects or create a new object, and dream of future possibilities.
