SUMMARY:Queer Futurism: Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:OPENING RECEPTION of Queer FuturismThursday\, August 7th from 6:00-9:00pmCebreazy Paints (611 2nd Ave\, Seattle\, WA 98126)FREE admission – RSVP here \n\n\n\nArt is many things\, but above all else it is a reflection. From Duchamp’s Fountain to Dore’s The Burial of Sarah\, all artwork is a reflection of how the artist sees the world around them. It is inspired heavily by the influences of everyday life. The stimuli of life seeps in through our pores and bleeds on to stage\, screen\, and canvas. But what do we do as artists when the world around us isn’t as beautiful as it could- or even should- be. \n\n\n\nArtists wield the only weapon that can combat the brutal realities of everyday life; the imagination. “Revolutionary Imagination” is a concept centered around hope for a better future. When the powers that be are at their most oppressive\, it is easy to feel hopeless. \n\n\n\nIt is easy to see a world plagued by racism\, genocide\, homophobia and xenophobia as “too far gone.” However\, that is counterproductive. The fact is\, those that came before us made it this far because they saw a future that could be in spite of what was. They saw a world redeemed from the horrors that divide us. They carried with them a revolutionary imagination that brought into being a better tomorrow. So the question now is\, what is your favorite tomorrow? What is the world that you envision? What are the possibilities that you may dare to dream of? We cannot fight for a tomorrow we cannot imagine. It is a revolutionary act in and of itself to simply believe tomorrow can be better. As artists\, we’re the only ones who can show the world what a better tomorrow could look like. \n\n\n\nARTISTIC THEMES/REFERENCES● Futurism● Afrofuturism● Utopia● “Before Yesterday We Could Fly: An Afrofuturist Period Room’ at the Met

SUMMARY:Ta'lo fan (Do it again): Printmaking Workshop with Roldy Aguero Ablao
DESCRIPTION:Maila (come) and gather with Tidelands this July to explore the art of printmaking on textiles\, fabric and even your own clothing. In this session\, you will work with Roldy Aguero Ablao\, a queer Chamorro artist who uses printmaking to adorn the body with symbols and motifs inspired by the land\, sea\, and their ancestry. \n\n\n\nClothing is a way to remember and celebrate who we are and where we come from\, allowing us to share what is important to us with others. In this gathering\, people are encouraged to bring their own clothing from home and will be guided to use the artists screenprints and stencils to print their own wearable stories. \n\n\n\nFolks will also have an opportunity to create their own stencils inspired by their lands\, seas and ancestries\, to use and print on their clothing in the workshop. Colors used for this day will be black and gold\, inspired by the midnight sky and morning golden sun. \n\n\n\nMaila! (Come!) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Open Mic Night: Healing Our Roots
DESCRIPTION:Join The Fishbowl for Open Mic Night during the monthly Third Thursday Uptown Art Walk. At one point or another\, we all experience rupture—through grief\, trauma\, or the ongoing work of affirming who we are. For QTBIPOC communities\, these wounds are often rooted in histories of displacement\, oppression\, and erasure. \n\n\n\nThe Fishbowl’s July Open Mic Night invites you to share stories\, songs\, poems\, and performances that explore how we heal at the root. How do we reclaim our wholeness? What practices or rituals help us transform pain into power? How do we mend what’s been broken—within ourselves\, our lineages\, our communities? \n\n\n\n✨ Whether you’re offering ancestral wisdom\, honoring grief\, affirming identity\, or imagining futures beyond harm—bring your truth to the mic. All forms of expression are welcome. \n\n\n\n🎙️ Performer Guidelines:– Pieces should be around 5 minutes– Need a mic? Come early for a sound check \n\n\n\nSign up to perform via the link thefishbowlseattle‘s Instagram bio or show up early to claim your spot. \n\n\n\nCome to speak\, witness\, reflect\, and be held in community.

SUMMARY:Artist Salon
DESCRIPTION:Join Shunpike for an evening of intimate dialogue and creative exchange with three visionary artists on Wednesday\, June 4\, 2025\, at 5 PM at 117 South Main St\, across from Occidental Square. \n\n\n\nRooted in education\, architecture\, and placemaking\, this event uplifts diverse narratives that challenge\, reimagine\, and deepen our understanding of the spaces we inhabit—physically\, spiritually\, and emotionally. \n\n\n\n–Bill Pfiefer Jr. (Wéidaaká Yóodóohaa) bridges ancestral Tlingit formline design with neon contemporary aesthetics\, inviting reflection on identity\, resilience\, and Indigenous wisdom. \n\n\n\n–ell lin offers tender visual storytelling through multimedia works that center Native Pacific Islander experience\, ecological care\, and the radical power of softness. \n\n\n\n–Parisa Ghaderi weaves photography\, archives\, and poetry to investigate silence\, loss\, and the evolving architecture of memory. Together\, their practices spark meaningful conversations about how art can shape place\, hold history\, and open space for communal learning and transformation. \n\n\n\nThis event is supported by The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation\, and features artists from Seattle Restored\, a program by Shunpike\, Seattle Good Business Network\, and the Office of Economic Development. \n\n\n\n\nFree RSVP
